with Edward DeVoe
This class is about taking your artistic skills beyond the normal or physical level. It is an advanced seminar to find your voice and make it transcend personal limits. It is for people who have a sense of direction for their own art.
This is best taken by experienced students who can build subjects on their own. Mr DeVoe will demonstrate individually for students who bring sketch materials. He will give some slide lectures and mini whiteboard demos as subjects present themselves. As paintings move toward completion group critiques will happen. Transcending Nature can mean new subjects--personal subjects. This can mean painting larger than you have ever tried!
Beyond your own relationship with your work, the class addresses how you effectively impart your passion as an artist so the viewer is engaged- that is our challenge. It can be hard work: building, crafting. Not a focus on fast; the focus is on effectiveness. Artists digging down to their primal cause in a highly creative group energy, connected to their essential purpose. Be it empowered or bold or just truth at last. Try a six-foot canvas. Mix your mediums. For example you could start in watercolor, painting with your fingers, then end in oil, painting a life force you sense at the tip of your brush.
