In this summer class we will specifically focus on composition in still life, both from the objects that we arrange, and the manner that color participates in that composition. We will consider the spectrum of abstraction and realism and use contemporary still life artists and their connection to historical still life painting as inspiration. I will start each class with a short slide show and bring a variety of interesting objects/colors to work with. You are also encouraged to bring your own favorites!

3 hours is not very long, and so I encourage you to work relatively small, bring several canvasses or boards, and to bring a sketch book to explore compositions (or you can explore directly on the canvas)
